How it works

Turkey has blocked access to Polymarket's main website under a July 16 decision by the country's gambling authority, according to an official domain-status record reviewed by The Coinformer.

  • The database operated by the Bilgi Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu, Turkey's internet regulator commonly known as the BTK, lists polymarket.com as blocked under decision BODB-2026/10.
  • The order came from the Milli Piyango İdaresi Genel Müdürlüğü, Turkey's National Lottery Administration, which oversees games of chance and takes action against unauthorized gambling websites.

The database entry doesn't explicitly explain why Polymarket was targeted. Still, the authority says it orders access restrictions against websites that provide unauthorized gambling or games of chance, making illegal gambling the likely basis for the decision.

  • Turkey's move came the same day France ordered internet providers to block Polymarket's entire website, after French regulators said its live odds effectively advertised illegal gambling.
  • France had already stopped users from placing bets in 2024, but more than 205,000 people still visited the site in June, while a separate controversy over suspicious temperature spikes at Charles de Gaulle Airport raised concerns that some weather markets may have been manipulated.

Turkey has become the fourth country with a publicly dated move to bar access to Polymarket in July alone.

  • Italy issued a blocking order on July 10, effective July 27.
  • Tthe Czech Republic added Polymarket to its unauthorized gambling list around July 13.
  • Turkey and France then issued separate blocking orders on July 16.
  • Cyprus currently lists Polymarket as blocked, but its rolling list doesn't disclose when the platform was added.
