Polymarket's long-rumored POLY token looks less imminent after a trademark filing tied to POLY was pushed into a longer response window, while the prediction market platform still hasn't published tokenomics, eligibility rules or even a launch timeframe.
A USPTO form reviewed by The Coinformer and filed on Tuesday, July 7, shows Blockratize Inc., the company behind Polymarket, requesting a three-month extension to respond to an Office Action for the standard-character mark POLY.
- The filing doesn't prove the token has been canceled, nor does it prevent Polymarket from launching a token before the trademark process is complete
- But it does weaken the "very soon" framing around POLY repeatedly pitched by members of the Polymarket team, because the public record still doesn't show a finished trademark response, token design, supply schedule or claim process, let alone a launch window.
- The document also narrows what can be said with confidence. It confirms that Blockratize requested more time to respond to the USPTO, with the response window extended to six months from the June 5 Office Action date, which means the company now has until Dec. 5 to file its response.
Months of hints, no launch plan yet
Speculation around a Polymarket token has been circulating in crypto for months, but it has mostly lived in vague hints, reward language and X replies rather than official statements.
Polymarket has been linked to token speculation since at least late 2025, when CEO Shayne Coplan publicly teased future plans tied to a native token. But since then, the company hasn't published the basic documents users would expect before a launch, including tokenomics, allocations, eligibility rules or legal terms.
In a March 24 post on X, Polymarket-linked figure Mustafa Aljadery introduced a referral program and said users would earn 30% of direct referrals and 10% of indirect referrals.
- He also said the new structure would make users eligible for "future rewards," adding that they were "coming very soon," without clarifying what those rewards were.
On May 4, another X user asked when users would be able to stake POLY to reduce taker fees and future maker fees. Aljadery replied, "very soon too."
"You're gonna be waiting a long time"
Then, in early July, Aljadery made things murkier by asking on X who was "the best in the world at building tokenomic models," fueling speculation that Polymarket may still be designing POLY rather than preparing a finished launch.
- The picture became even messier after Greg Sarandi, who appears to be a former Polymarket business development executive who left the company in February to build his own prediction-market product, weighed in under a post about what tokenomics model would best fit Polymarket.
- Sarandi didn't offer any explanation, but only wrote "You're gonna be waiting a long time brother."
That vague delay tease only made things worse for those who were already tired of Polymarket's neverending market resolution fights, where UMA's oracle rulings have repeatedly been criticized as manipulated and disconnected from reality.
- As of press time, Polymarket has made no public comment on the trademark extension, Aljadery's tokenomics post or Sarandi's remark.
- But there's still no confirmation that POLY is canceled, and there's also no public evidence that a launch is imminent.
