"We removed our earlier statement after seeing the tone the public conversation was taking. Some of the responses directed toward her had become increasingly hostile, and we did not want anything we had posted to contribute to further attention or negativity toward her," the spokesperson said.
He said Hack VC hadn't spoken to her directly for more than 10 months and was unaware of the circumstances surrounding her death.

Hsin-Ju Chuang, a former partner and head of platform at crypto investment firm Hack VC, was found dead in California on Aug. 24, a day after publicly accusing her former employer of workplace mistreatment and promising to release evidence against it.
- According to the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office, California Highway Patrol officers responded to Interstate 15 near Field Road at approximately 9:47 p.m. Chuang, a 37-year-old North Las Vegas resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
- Local outlet Pain in the Pass reported on Sept. 5 that officers found her inside a vehicle near the highway off-ramp. The coroner's public notice doesn't establish a cause of death.
The allegations she planned to make public
In an Aug. 23 post on X, Chuang said she had rejected a proposed settlement requiring her silence and dismissed her lawyers. She planned to release evidence from her time at Hack VC on Aug. 26.
I have a dark, kinda tragic personal announcement.
I've decided I'd rather take $0 than accept a settlement that requires me to stay silent about what happened to me. I have since fired my lawyers at @sanfordheisler & will be releasing all the… https://t.co/YqPuc8R3zj— Hsin-Ju (@hsinju) August 23, 2026
- Chuang alleged that she had been required to work 13 to 14 hours a day, six days a week, despite a serious medical emergency.
- She also accused senior executives of threatening to blacklist her across the crypto industry if she left before completing several events, including work related to Korea Blockchain Week.
- She further alleged that the firm mishandled her health insurance after her departure and continued pressuring her during legal negotiations.
Hack VC disputed Chuang's allegations in an Aug. 24 statement on X, saying its understanding of events differed significantly from hers. The firm expressed concern about her health but declined to discuss the dispute publicly, citing privacy concerns.
"While our understanding of events differs materially, we do not wish to discuss the details publicly at this time out of respect for their privacy," the statement read.

- The allegations remain unproven and the evidence Chuang said she intended to release hasn't been independently verified.
Her death and the dispute with Hack VC are separate matters in the available public record.
Authorities haven't established a cause of death and there's no verified evidence connecting the circumstances of her death to her allegations against the firm.
