Chainalysis Government Solutions, Chainalysis's U.S. public-sector subsidiary, has filed a sealed bid protest weeks after Immigration and Customs Enforcement awarded rival crypto-tracing firm TRM Labs a $94.7 million sole-source contract.
- The case was filed against the United States in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims on July 27 and later highlighted on X by crypto news outlet The Rage.
- TRM Labs filed an unopposed motion to intervene the following day and was admitted as the defendant-intervenor.
Records point to multi-million contract
The sealed filings don't publicly name the disputed procurement, but the surrounding records strongly point to ICE's July 1 award to TRM Labs.
Government-contracting publication OrangeSlices recorded an earlier Chainalysis protest over the related ICE procurement on July 13 and subsequently reported it withdrawn.
- ICE awarded TRM Labs the one-year, $94,655,840 contract to provide analytical support for the Homeland Security Task Force's Cyber Disruption Center.
- Procurement records list one bidder and say the agency determined that "only one source" could provide the required services.
Chainalysis's objections remain sealed
The court sealed Chainalysis's complaint and Aug. 11 motion for judgment. Its protective order says the case may disclose information that is "competition-sensitive or otherwise protectable."
- The government and TRM Labs must respond by Aug. 21.
- Oral arguments are scheduled for Sept. 2, and the government has requested a decision by Sept. 10.
