Buterin calls Trueo a strong decentralized prediction market contender. It still relies on a five-person dispute council

Ethereum's co-founder just gave Trueo a high-profile endorsement, but the prediction market remains tiny and its system still starts with a small council.

How it works

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has welcomed Trueo, an on-chain prediction market, as a serious decentralized challenger even as the platform handles only about $10,000 in monthly trading and still gives five people the first say in disputed markets.

  • Buterin praised Trueo on X after the project announced on Sunday that it would migrate from Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 network, to Ethereum mainnet.
  • He called Trueo a "new strong prediction market contender" dedicated to decentralization and being ethical, adding that it was "not corposlop."
But Trueo remains pretty tiny compared with established rivals
Data from DeFi tracker DefiLlama shows just roughly $9,600 in Trueo trading volume over the past 30 days and about $780,000 since launch.

For context, Polymarket recorded roughly $4 billion over the same period.

Decentralization is still a work in progress

Trueo's current resolution system also retains a human layer that gives five people an important early role when traders disagree over who won a market.

  • The protocol's documentation lists five members of an Oracle Council, a committee that currently creates markets and handles the first arbitration when a proposed outcome is challenged.
  • Trueo describes the arrangement as part of its early "genesis phase" and says those powers are expected to become progressively decentralized.
That doesn't mean the five council members have the final word
Users can challenge an initial outcome by posting a bond.

If the council's decision is challenged again, the dispute moves to TRUE token holders, while a further appeal can eventually reach a randomly selected group of 11 "attesters" responsible for issuing the final decision.

Trueo says moving to Ethereum will help it attract more liquidity and build a more credible resolution system. Existing markets on Base will remain operational during the transition.

Amid the news, TRUE soared more than 500% on the day to $0.12, giving the token a market capitalization of about $11 million, according to CoinGecko.
