How it works

OpenAI has quietly started putting Kalshi's World Cup odds into ChatGPT search results, giving the prediction market operator its biggest distribution deal yet.

  • The arrangement, first reported by The New York Times, appears to be OpenAI's first partnership with a company whose core business lets users wager on real-world events.

In searches reviewed by the newspaper, ChatGPT showed a graphic giving France a 60% chance of beating Spain and cited Kalshi as the source.

Those figures aren't ChatGPT's own forecasts. They reflect prices set by traders buying and selling contracts on Kalshi.

The New York Times noted that OpenAI recently updated its help pages to say Kalshi data may appear in searches related to the 2026 World Cup.

"For queries related to the 2026 World Cup, ChatGPT may show predictive information sourced from Kalshi to provide timely context about upcoming matches."

The company also stressed that users "cannot place bets through ChatGPT" and described the probabilities as being "for informational purposes only."

Kalshi has already placed its probabilities across CNN and CNBC broadcasts. Polymarket, a crypto-based rival, has a similar agreement with Dow Jones, the publisher of The Wall Street Journal.

  • As The Coinformer reported, sports markets are Kalshi's largest category by open interest, with roughly $908 million tied up as betting surges during the FIFA World Cup.
