New Dune users will soon have to pay at least $75 a month to run queries, marking a sharp shift for a platform that built much of its analyst community around free access.
Dune, an on-chain analytics platform widely used to query blockchain data and build public dashboards, now says in its billing documentation that new accounts begin with a 14-day free trial carrying 2,500 credits, The Coinformer verified.
Once the trial ends — or those credits are exhausted — the account moves to "view-only access" unless the user upgrades to a paid plan.
- The cheapest paid option, Dune's Analyst plan, costs $75 per month, or $65 per month when billed annually.
A shift from Dune's free-access roots
The change is significant for a platform whose free query tools became an entry point for generations of crypto analysts.
As recently as June 2025, when rival analytics platform Flipside was shutting down its own analytics studio, Dune actively encouraged displaced analysts to move their work over.
"You can already build and publish everything you need on the Free plan. No pressure," Dune said at the time. The company described its mission as making crypto data accessible and said its platform served more than one million monthly active users across over 100 blockchains.
- It's not yet clear from the documentation whether existing longtime free accounts will also lose query access.
- Dune's billing page itself still contains older FAQ language saying a Free plan receives 2,500 monthly credits and can run queries, even though a newer section on the same page explicitly says new accounts become view-only after their trial.
Comes after 25% staff cut
The pricing shift comes three months after Dune cut 25% of its workforce as the company reorganized around its core data products, artificial intelligence and institutional customers.
Fredrik Haga, Dune's co-founder and CEO, said in May that the company had invested heavily in AI tools that allow customers and AI agents to build dashboards and workflows without needing to understand SQL or underlying data infrastructure.
He also said Dune was increasing investment in its data layer and "white-glove service" for institutions.
- Haga said at the time that Dune remained "well capitalized." The company last raised over $69.4 million in a 2022 Series B led by Coatue.
