Zapper, the DeFi portfolio tracker backed by Framework Ventures and Coinbase Ventures, is shutting down on Aug. 3 after nearly seven years, despite once serving more than 2 million monthly users and processing more than $13 billion in peak transaction volume.
- Seb Audet, Zapper's co-founder and CEO, announced the shutdown in a July 8 post on X, saying the company had evaluated "a number of different options" and pursued some "to the fullest extent possible" before deciding that an orderly wind-down was the best remaining path.
Zapper started as a tool for a problem that defined early DeFi. Users had money scattered across wallets and liquidity pools, while most interfaces showed only small parts of that picture.

Audet said Zapper began as a simple portfolio tracker he built for himself while exploring DeFi. The product later became one of the better-known dashboards for on-chain users, helping them track assets and activity across protocols from one place.
At its peak, according to Audet, Zapper served more than 2 million monthly active users and processed more than $13 billion in transaction volume.
- Zapper raised a $15 million Series A round in 2021, with Framework Ventures, Coinbase Ventures, Delphi Digital and other crypto investors among its backers. The round was also reportedly joined by actor Ashton Kutcher's Sound Ventures and entrepreneur Mark Cuban.
- In 2020, the project secured a $1.5 million seed round also led by Framework Ventures and Libertus Capital, with participation from MetaCartel Ventures, Coinfund, The LAO, CoinGecko, and Zee Prime Capital.
