OrdinalsBot, an infrastructure startup that raised more than $4.5 million to build tools for Bitcoin-based NFTs and tokens, is winding down after concluding that its business is no longer viable.
The project said in a Wednesday post on X, Aug. 19, that restructuring efforts and attempts to pivot the business had failed to produce a sustainable path forward.

Three years ago, something special happened on Bitcoin. The Ordinals protocol made it possible to create and trade digital assets with the permanence of storing data truly on-chain.
About 1 month after Ordinals went live, we launched OrdinalsBot as…
Now, OrdinalsBot is looking for potential buyers, effectively putting one of the early companies built around Bitcoin's Ordinals boom up for sale.
Built during the Ordinals boom
Founded in 2023, OrdinalsBot emerged shortly after developer Casey Rodarmor introduced Ordinals, a protocol that made it possible to inscribe images, text and other data directly onto individual satoshis, the smallest units of BTC.
- The startup initially offered a simple automated inscription service before expanding into infrastructure for Ordinals, BRC-20 tokens and Runes.
- Its products eventually included developer APIs, launchpads, inscription tools and a marketplace.
OrdinalsBot said its infrastructure was used for projects including Runestones, Bitcoin Punks and ORDI, the first BRC-20 token to reach a $1 billion market capitalization. The company said it had served more than 110,000 wallets.
At the height of its expansion in 2024, the company was reporting considerably larger usage figures. In May of that year, OrdinalsBot said more than 200,000 people had used its platform and that it had processed more than $4 million worth of inscriptions during Q1 alone. It also claimed to have been involved in eight of the 10 largest files then inscribed on Bitcoin.
More than $4.5 million raised
Investors had backed that expansion with more than $4.5 million in funding.
- OrdinalsBot raised its first round in 2023 from investors including Bitcoin Frontier Fund, Lightning Ventures, UTXO Management, Kestrel0x1, Angsana Investments and Deep Ventures, alongside several angel investors.
Five months later, the company announced an oversubscribed $3 million-plus seed round led by Digital Asset Capital Management, with Eden Block, Nural Capital, WWVentures, Lightning Ventures, Oak Grove Ventures, UTXO Management, Kenetic Capital, CMS Holdings and Sora Ventures among the participants. The company said the round brought its total funding to more than $4.5 million.
The capital was supposed to finance hiring, particularly Bitcoin developers, and turn OrdinalsBot into broader infrastructure for storing and trading data on Bitcoin.
